TLDR: Fewer than 25% of the hot tub dealerships we talk to every week have Google Search Console set up, which means they’re missing free, direct-from-Google data on how their site actually performs. Google just rolled out AI performance reporting inside Search Console to every site worldwide, so this free tool now shows visibility in AI Overviews and AI Mode too, not just traditional search.

Every week, I have quite a few conversations with hot tub dealerships across the country, and one question keeps producing the same surprising answer. Do you have Google Search Console set up? Less than 25% of dealers say yes. Most have never heard of it. That’s a serious gap, because Search Console is one of the only places a dealership can see, directly from Google, exactly how its website is performing and where it’s losing ground.
What Google Search Console Actually Shows
Search Console is a free tool from Google that shows a website’s real performance in search. It reports the following:
- Impressions (how many people saw your website/brand in the non-paid section of Google)
- Clicks (how many people clicked on your organic listing in Google)
- Average position (where those keywords rank organically in Google)
- The exact queries (keywords) and pages driving traffic
It also flags technical issues, like pages that aren’t getting indexed or mobile usability problems, that can quietly hurt visibility without a dealer ever knowing.
None of this data comes from a third-party estimate or a tool guessing at rankings. It comes straight from Google, based on how the site actually showed up in real, organic searches. If you’re trying to understand whether the SEO efforts for their hot tub dealership are working, this is about as close to the truth as it gets, and it costs you absolutely nothing to set up.
The AI Reporting Update Changes What’s at Stake
This became even more important recently. Google has been testing generative AI performance reports inside Search Console since June 2026, starting with a small group of UK site owners. As of August 31, 2026, that rollout expanded to every website worldwide. Here’s a link from Search Engine Journal talking about this.
These new reports show impressions from AI Overviews, AI Mode, and the generative AI features inside Google Discover, broken down by page, country, and date, with an added device breakdown for the Search report. In other words, a dealership can now see whether its pages are actually showing up when Google’s AI features answer a buyer’s question, not just in the traditional list of blue links.
There are a couple of limits worth knowing. The reports don’t yet include click data, so there’s no way to see how many of those AI impressions actually turned into a visit. And not every site has access yet. Google has said that properties without enough AI impressions might not see a report at all, which is itself a signal worth paying attention to.
Karen Martinez, our head of SEO, put it simply:
“I don’t know why so many dealers don’t have GSC set up. Maybe they just don’t know about it. It only takes a few minutes and unlocks so much information about how the business performs in organic search. The findings in there are critical to building and executing a solid SEO plan for your dealership. Bonus points if you have Bing Webmaster Tools set up as well.”
That last point matters too. Bing still drives real search traffic, especially in certain demographics, and Bing Webmaster Tools is just as free and faster to set up since it’s a one-click migration from Google Search Console.
What to Actually Do With the Data
Having Search Console set up is only half the value. The real benefit comes from checking it regularly (at the very least, weekly) and knowing what to look for.
Start with impression trends. A steady rise in impressions for key pages usually means visibility is growing, even before clicks or leads catch up. A decline is an early warning sign worth investigating before it turns into a real traffic drop.
The screenshot below is from an actual prospect who has GSC set up, but never checks it and had no idea they were on a massive downslide in impressions and clicks. This should have been caught and corrected two months ago. Scary, right?

Click trends matter just as much, especially alongside impressions. Rising impressions with flat or falling clicks often point to a page that’s showing up but not earning the click, which can mean a weak title tag, a bad match between the page and the search intent, or increased competition in that result.
The most actionable habit is tracking which keywords are losing position over time. Search Console makes it possible to see, query by query, where a page used to rank well and has started slipping. That’s a direct signal for which pages need attention, whether that’s updated content, better internal linking, or a rewrite that more directly answers the question buyers are actually searching for.
Put together, this data lets a hot tub dealership prioritize its SEO work based on real evidence instead of guesswork. That’s how visibility gets protected and grown, which in turn drives brand awareness, more organic traffic, and ultimately more leads and ups walking through the showroom door.
A Few Minutes Now, Data That Matters for Years
Setting up Google Search Console takes a few minutes and doesn’t cost anything. What it unlocks is a direct window into how a dealership’s website is actually performing, in traditional search and now in AI search too, at a moment when that second piece is becoming impossible to ignore.
Dealers who set this up and actually use the data have a real advantage over the roughly three out of four competitors who are flying blind. In an industry where most dealerships still haven’t touched this tool, that gap is an opportunity waiting to be taken. Don’t sleep on this any longer. Take five minutes and get it setup today.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Google Search Console and why does my dealership need it?
Google Search Console is a free tool that shows exactly how a website performs in Google search, including impressions, clicks, rankings, and technical issues. It’s the most direct source of truth available for understanding SEO performance.
What did Google just change about AI reporting in Search Console?
Google rolled out generative AI performance reports to all websites worldwide as of August 31, 2026, after testing them with a small group of sites starting in June. These reports show impressions from AI Overviews, AI Mode, and Discover’s AI features.
Does Search Console show clicks from AI Overviews?
Not yet. The current AI reports show impressions only, meaning how often pages appear in these AI features, but they don’t yet include click data.
What should I actually look at in Search Console every month?
Focus on impression and click trends over time, and pay close attention to keywords that are losing position. That combination shows where visibility is growing, where it’s slipping, and which pages need attention first.
